Professional Development Plan

2010:

  • Assuming that my current appointment will end in July, begin search for permanent full-time position.
  • Pursue archival appraisal and preservation classes at UNC Chapel Hill.
  • SAA continuing education courses as available and feasible.
  • Attend SAA and ALA conferences.
  • Stay current on trends through listservs, blogs, and organizational memberships.
  • Join UNCG and LIS alumni associations; perhaps volunteer for website work.
  • Begin work on volunteer EAD encoding project at Greensboro Historical Museum.
  • Tour digital projects facilities at University of Pittsburgh.
  • Re-initiate DavidGwynn.com as a blog/professional site.
  • Research second master’s options.

2011:

  • Continue working with EAD project at Greensboro Historical Museum and consider writing a paper for publication on the experience.
  • SAA continuing education courses as available and feasible.
  • Attend SAA and ALA conferences.
  • Continue work with alumni association(s).
  • Become more active in SCNA: committee membership, volunteer, etc.
  • Tour digitization facilities and network as much as possible (Lyrasis, UNC, etc.)
  • Begin work on second master’s, possibly in public history.
  • Stay current on trends through listservs, blogs, and organizational memberships.

2012:

  • SAA continuing education courses as available and feasible.
  • Attend SNCA and other conferences as time and finances permit.
  • Continue work with alumni association(s).
  • Continue involvement with SCNA: committee membership, volunteer, etc.
  • Continue work on second master’s.
  • Stay current on trends through listservs, blogs, and organizational memberships.
  • Explore additional opportunities for publication.

2013:

  • Complete second master’s.
  • Look into additional GIS classes.
  • SAA continuing education courses as available and feasible.
  • Attend SNCA and other conferences as time and finances permit.
  • Continue work with alumni association(s).
  • Continue involvement with SCNA: committee membership, volunteer, etc.
  • Stay current on trends through listservs, blogs, and organizational memberships.

2014:

  • Pursue consulting opportunities as current position allows.
  • Consider formalized mentoring program.
  • SAA continuing education courses as available and feasible.
  • Attend SNCA and other conferences as time and finances permit.
  • Continue involvement with SCNA: committee membership, volunteer, etc.
  • Stay current on trends through listservs, blogs, and organizational memberships.
  • Explore additional opportunities for publication and research.
